DownCity Design is searching for an experienced Design-Build Educator to lead daily design classes for 9th -12th graders in an intensive 6-week Architectural Design/Build program. Students will work together for real-world clients to select a challenge in their community, identify an appropriate site for intervention, and design and build one or more small-scale structures that address that issue and improve the neighborhood. Students in this program will receive a stipend for their participation that is roughly equivalent to a minimum-wage summer job. By the end of this program, participants will present final design/build projects to their clients, and will document their process in an online portfolio. This teacher will partner with a certified Providence Public School teacher to create and implement project-based curricula that support youth in designing and building a structure to improve Providence.

Summer Design Co-Educator Architectural Design/Build Studio


This Summer, DownCity Design (DCD) will offer three unique collaborative summer programs for high school students: Summer Design/Build Studio, Explore Design, and PCTA Design Studio programs. DCD Design Educators will work together with teachers and administrators to design and deliver a 6-week experience that will get high school students excited about learning, provide concrete design, STEAM and social/emotional skills, and empower youth to make an impact on their communities. DownCity Design is searching for three academic teachers experienced in personalized learning to co-lead daily programs as part of the Summer Design Studio. These teachers will collaborate with Design Educators from DownCity Design to create and implement project-based curricula  embedded in real-world learning and youth design projects

Design Teaching Assistant 

Currently, DCD is searching for a Design Teaching Assistant that shares this vision to assist with our upcoming summer youth programs. This TA will partner with an experienced Design Educator from DownCity Design to implement project-based curricula that support youth in designing and creating a project to improve Providence. The Design Teaching Assistant will provide support for our instructors throughout the program by assisting students throughout the design process.

The DownCity Design Summer EXPLORE DESIGN program is a unique collaborative summer program for high school students held at PCTA (Providence Career and Technical Academy). DownCity Design (DCD) educators and staff will work together with PPSD (Providence Public School District) teachers to design and deliver a 6-week experience that will get students excited about learning, provide concrete STEAM and ELA skills, and empower youth to make an impact on their community. DownCity Design is searching for experienced Design Educators to co-lead daily design classes for our EXPLORE DESIGN program, providing an overview of possible design career paths including graphic design, industrial and product design, architectural design, and user experience design. This Design Educator will partner with certified a Providence Public School teacher to create and implement project-based curricula that support youth learning about how design can be used to improve Providence communities.

Summer Design Co-Educator: EXPLORE DESIGN


Community Outreach AmeriCorps VISTA

DownCity Design is seeking a full-time AmeriCorps VISTA member for a one-year stipended service commitment from August 27, 2018-August 28th 2019. The Community Outreach VISTA will help DownCity Design share stories of service-learning, creative problem-solving, and community-building led by youth designers and passionate educators. Helping DownCity Design document and describe our work in visually engaging ways will encourage participation in our programs and generate support for our mission. The Community Outreach VISTA will also provide essential service to our fundraising efforts by creating compelling campaign materials, tracking and acknowledging donations, as well as researching and preparing grant proposals. DownCity Design seeks a creative individual who can also think strategically to implement long-term systems for program documentation, communications, and fundraising.
