This summer, DownCity Design is offering three unique collaborative summer programs for high school students: Summer Design/Build Studio, Explore Design, and PCTA Creative Change Studio. DownCity Design is looking for Design Educators who will work together with teachers and administrators to design and deliver a 6-week experience. Goals include getting high school students excited about learning, providing tangible design, STEAM and social/emotional skills, and empowering youth to make an impact on their communities. Each of the summer programs asks students to come up with solutions to a community challenge using the design thinking process.

Design/Build Studio

In Design/Build Studio, students will work together to select local non-profit or community organizations with identifiable challenges, and design and build small-scale structures that address those needs and improve the neighborhood. We are searching for an experienced Design-Build Educator to lead daily design classes for 9th-12th graders for this intensive 6-week Architectural Design/Build program.

Explore Design

The Explore Design program will provide an overview of possible design career paths, while asking students to examine how these fields can solve real world challenges. We are searching for an experienced Design Educator to co-lead daily design classes for this program, providing an overview of design career paths including graphic design, industrial and product design, architectural design, and user experience design.

PCTA Creative Change Studio

In PCTA Creative Change, students will be introduced to the principles of graphic, product and/or user experience design and use their skills to create design solutions for a local non-profit or community organization. We are searching for an experienced Design Educator to co-lead daily design classes for 9th-12th graders in this intensive 6-week design program.

DownCity Design is also searching for academic teachers experienced in project-based learning to co-lead daily programs as part of DCD Summer Studios. These teachers will collaborate with Design Educators from DownCity Design to create and implement project-based curricula embedded in real-world learning and youth-led design projects.

Moses Brown Summer Inventor Studio || Lead Educator

The DownCity Design Inventor Studio at Moses Brown School offers kids ages 8-11 a fun introduction to the process that designers and inventors use to create products that solve problems and make the world a better place. Each week, campers will be presented with a real community need, and work together to imagine something they could create to meet that need. With the guidance of a DownCity Design educator, they’ll sketch their ideas, experiment with new materials as they prototype and test their concepts, get feedback to make their designs stronger, and present their final pitch.

We are searching for an experienced Design Educator to lead daily half-day design classes for 8-11 year olds in the three week-long sessions of Inventor Studio. Through hands-on design challenges, the design educator will work with students to develop their confidence and practice STEAM skills while learning to innovate, communicate their ideas, and work as part of a team.
